Reviewing the December Burly Q Christmas Show.

The burlesque scene in Sheffield has come on in leaps and bounds in the last few years. True we're somewhat lacking compared to Leeds or Manchester, but what we have got is damn good.

We're down at the Shakey tonight, an awesome, rough around the edges pub full of both character and characters. Upstairs is where the action is at and we're treated to front row seats. Now, I've been to my fair share of burlesque nights before, but this is my first time at the Burly Q event. Still, they're much of a muchness, right? Wrong. Cue an Ebeneezer Scrooge monologue bemoaning Christmas before a musical interlude courtesy of Ginger Heyworth. Already it's obvious that this is no run-of-the-mill event. A cheeky turn from Sofire Rose [he means Sofire Rosa - BQ] follows, complete with candy cane and Mariah Carey soundtrack, before acts such as Audrey hepkat, Penny Dreadful, Hells Belle and Ms Perversity Lurks take to the stage. [Also Lottie L'etoile - who's act was pictured in this review but not mentioned?, BQ]

I'm not kidding this was an absolutely mind blowing evening that had me creased up at some of the outrageous shenanigans.

"I'm not kidding this was an absolutely mind blowing evening that had me creased up at some of the outrageous shenanigans.."

Where else can you see the Queen mother [The Queen, not the Queen Mother - BQ] stripping off to AC-DC's "Big Bottom" [actually its "Big Bottom" by Spinal Tap - ACDC had an album called "Big Balls" - BQ] and a man dancing in a turkey suit? That's just the tip of the iceberg. Burly Q are an absolute breath of fresh air on the burlesque scene. Witty, funny and thoroughly original. Any one of the acts would sail through Britains Got Talent but you kinda want to keep little gems like this all to yourself. It's not cheap at £15, but the fact the place is packed full of decadently dressed partygoers speaks volumes. You also get to dance the night away after thanks to DJs Den Iniquity and Cherryred [also that night was guest DJ Dan Sette]

They're upping sticks for the next one on Jan 30th to their new home at Bar Abbey on Abbeydale Road where you'll be treated to performances from Daquiri Dusk, Vendetta Vain, Impressive Johnson and Cat Aclysmic. If you don't go, you will be missing out on one of the best nights you'll ever have. Fact!
